Bio and Accomplishments
Will Lawrence is a 2018 offensive tackle from Harding Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. Lawrence's possesses elite skills in the run game and in pass protection. He is 6'4" and 260 pounds as a 14 year old 8th grader started for his high school's varsity football team.
Here's what Lawrence's high school offensive line coach had to say about him in an article published in the Memphis Commercial Appeal: "In the 16 years I've been coaching I've never seen a seventh grader so technically sound and one who is so coachable," [Coach Justin] Banker said. "There's no doubt he dominates physically but what you don't see is how hard Will works to learn, to get better to be focused on every aspect of his position and the game in general. In Tennessee you can play varsity as an eighth-grader and that is what our plan is for Will. He's impressive and he'll be ready to make an impact [his 8th grade year]." http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2013/jan/23/germantown-youth-stand-out-player-during-all-in/
Here is what several nationally recognized scouts and recruiting analysts have said about Will:
“Will Lawrence consistently has great reads and demonstrates great technique. That technique, even against bigger, older opponents, is Will’s greatest attribute. His reach and quick feet coupled with that size is a lethal combination for a young lineman.” Erik Richards, FBU’s Executive Director “Will Lawrence is huge for his age. Solid pass set and great strength for an 8th grader. He will be a big time D-1 lineman. No doubt about it.” CEO Dave Schuman of The National Underclassman Combine “We’ve had a lot of amazing prospects come through since 1980, including Bo Jackson. But as far as young linemen go, Will Lawrence has as amazing a skill set package as I’ve ever seen in an 8th grader. Mentally and technique-wise, he is already as good as any junior or senior. When his strength catches up as his body fills out, it’s over. I have no doubt Will will be the top high school lineman in the nation.” Matthew Joseph, Director of The National Scouting Report
SigningDay.com had this to say about Will:
"Will is as impressive as they come for a prospect his age. Lawrence possesses a tremendous feel for the game, accompanied by elite physical abilities. Lawrence holds his own against older varsity opponents and at times is flat out dominating. As referenced in his previous evaluation, his technique is above average for a prospect his age. His pass set resembles that of a high school junior or senior prospect, as he consistently remains solid through his base and is effective engaging and locking out on-coming rushers. We've noted marked improvement in his run blocking proficiency, as he's more effective working up to second level defenders. We would like to see improved pad level as he fires out of his stance to better utilize his advantage in strength and leverage. A solid punch and consistent hand placement are still notable strong points in Lawrence's game. Improvements in overall athleticism along with continued development in knee, hip, and ankle flexion will benefit Lawrence's development greatly. We're excited to watch continued improvement of this promising prospect."
