Jake is a strong all around player, that possesses all the skills you look for in an outside linebacker. He has excellent feet, moves well laterally, is excellent at navigating through traffic, and is capable of getting over the top and making plays outside the tackles. He plays with a very good base, does a good job of attacking the line of scrimmage, and is physical at the point of attack. He does a nice job of playing with his hands, properly taking on and shedding blockers, and locating the ball. He has very good avoid and side step ability to slip blocks between the tackles. He takes smart angles to the ball, is relentless in pursuit, and plays with a nonstop motor. He also shows excellent closing speed, and runs very well in space. He looks comfortable dropping into coverage, and has the ability to cover all backs and tight ends. He is a solid tackler that squares up, breaks down, and wraps up ball carriers. He is also a strong open field tackler. Jake appears to have good football instincts, diagnose skills, and a nose for the ball. You are always looking for your inside linebacker to have a combination of athletic ability and toughness to anchor your defense and Jake has those qualities.
